Is it worth joining the student union?
Of course! Being a member of the student union benefits both you and your studies and student life. Your membership ensures that the student union survives and can continue to represent the students. Over the years, LinTek has been able to bring about many, many changes at the university, such as anonymous exams and the Campus Bus that runs between Norrköping and Linköping. All thanks to our members and dedicated students.

- LinTek helps organize all student representation in the university’s various decision-making bodies, from individual program committees to the University Board. Students—or rather, student union members—have a say in everything that affects our programs and our academic experience!
- The student unions help individual students who encounter problems at the university. This could involve a professor saying something that offends you, or being graded unfairly.
- The student union stays on top of current regulations and maintains good contacts at all levels of the university organization. Naturally, there are student union representatives on the disciplinary committee—the body that adjudicates cases of academic dishonesty.
- Student unions are the glue that holds student life together. The sections—which monitor academic programs and organize orientation events and other social activities for all students in the same program—are funded in part by the student union fee. Interest groups must be approved by the student unions to be recognized as student associations.
- Take your student union membership to the next level by getting involved in student union activities. You can try everything from serving on a committee and volunteering on projects to becoming a full-time paid member of LinTek’s student union leadership.
To be a student union, we need members!
For LinTek to continue as a student union, we must represent a large number of students and engage in educational advocacy. This means that LinTek needs many members to remain in existence—that is, to retain its student union status.
The university continuously reviews whether LinTek may continue to call itself a student union. The decision will depend, among other things, on membership numbers and the activities the student union carries out. LinTek’s core activities are monitoring and improving educational programs, but LinTek also works on student welfare issues, organizes events, and creates opportunities for interaction between the business community and students on campus. Consequences if the student union were to disappear
Students would lose their voice in dealings with the university.
Monitoring and improving your educational programs would cease.
Events such as LARM and München Hoben would be discontinued.
Student influence on student welfare issues—such as the work environment, the student union building, and Equal Opportunities—would be lost.

ADVOCACY & ENGAGEMENT
As a LinTek member, you have the opportunity to get involved both in LinTek’s committees and in advocacy work with the university. This might involve, for example, serving as a student representative, participating in the election of next year’s FUM (Student Council), and serving on the FUM yourself.
